Enhancing Postpartum Depression Care Through Digital Interventions: A Scoping Review for the COMPASS Team
In my work with the COMPASS team, I led a scoping review of digital interventions for postpartum depression (PPD), with a focus on marginalized communities. I analyzed programs such as Baby2Home (B2H), NICU2Home, and the Mothers and Babies Online Course, evaluating their engagement, effectiveness, and user satisfaction. I specifically examined how these interventions applied cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) principles and the Collaborative Care Model (CCM) to personalize content, encourage regular engagement, and address social determinants of health.
Key aspects of my project included:
Evaluating Digital Interventions: I assessed programs like B2H, NICU2Home, and the Mothers and Babies Online Course, all of which integrate CBT principles and the CCM.
Analyzing Engagement and Effectiveness: I studied the programs' engagement rates, user satisfaction, and overall effectiveness in supporting new mothers.
Exploring Personalization and Cultural Competence: I investigated how these interventions tailored their content to individual users and addressed factors like economic instability and systemic racism.
Identifying Success Factors: I pinpointed the critical elements for successful digital mental health interventions, including personalized support, consistent engagement, and culturally competent approaches.
My findings informed the COMPASS team’s efforts to develop scalable digital solutions that effectively support new mothers, particularly those in underserved populations, by enhancing retention and improving outcomes in postpartum depression care.
